MEKWARS: LEGENDS

YOUR UNIT FOCUS
All Players select a particular "Unit Focus" for their Battalion, Cluster or Level III. The Unit Focus provides players with a unique minor bonus as well as access to "focus" buildtables from which they may request a unit that is typical of their unit focus. Additionally, as the campaign progresses players from the same unit focus in a faction may create custom refits that are unique to their unit focus and may randomly be assigned to them instead of a canonical unit when they purchase their "focus unit".

Players must choose a Unit Focus from one of the following options:

Battle Master, BattleTech
HEAVY FORMATIONS - These Lyran Alliance special formations feature a high concentration of heavy and assault-class BattleMechs and often form the steel backbone off a Lyran line regiment.

Advantage: The Heavy Formations unit focus grants players the option to add one additional commander to their army, above what would normally allowed based on the armies canon unit formations, when the army 50% of the army is comprised of assault-class mechs. The bonus commander must be placed in an assault mech. This focus is available only to members of the LAAF subfaction.

IRREGULAR - These formations feature a high concentration of units equipped with Electronic Counter Measures (ECM), Stealth Armor or mobility systems meant to allow these formations to strike where the enemy least expects it.

Advantage: Irregular Formation unit focus grants the player the option to demand a re-task before entering the Megamek client when attacking. The retask option is normally only available to the defender and a this focus does not grant a defending player a second retask option. Example: An Irregular focus army attacks Tikonov, and draws the Arctic City terrain. The player thinks that the terrain will be a disadvantage so he decides to uses the unit focus and announces he will be using the re-task (a.k.a "re-roll terrain")

Raptor, BattleTechCAVALRY-RECON FORMATIONS - These formations feature a high concentration of lighter, highly mobile units that can rapidly find and overwhelm an over-confident opponent with lightning fast flanking attacks.

Advantage: The Cav-Recon Formations unit focus grants players the option to assign their army an additional + 1 initative bonus on the any "Plains" or "Lowlands" terrains while fielding armies in which all Mechs in the army are medium or light Mechs. NOTE: This advantage is manually added by the Cavalry-Recon Formations player following announcing it in the lobby of the Megamek client after both players have entered the client. If both sides have this bonus they cancel each other and neither side adds the bonus
.

Longbow, BattleTechFIRE SUPPORT FORMATIONS - These formations feature a high concentration of Long-range support units and BattleMechs meant to break the the enemy through sustained and accurate withering direct and indirect fire.

Advantages: The Fire Support Formations unit focus grants players the ability to field one extra ton of each ammunition type above the legal limits for their faction. Additionally, players may place eight pre-designated artillery hexs during deplyment instead of the standard five hexes. Example: The Trinity Alliance has a Swarm LRM and a Thunder LRM factory. A Longbow in a Fire Support army could load two tons of Thunder LRM and two tons of Swarm LRM. The same Longbow normally would only be allowed to load one ton of each ammo.

Barghast, BattleMechSTORM FORMATIONS - These formations feature a high concentration of BattleMechs specializing in close range combat, often featuring a potent mix of mobility armor and brute force necessary to storm enemy strong-points and objectives.

Advantage: The Storm Formation unit focus grants the player the ability to add +1 to their initiative when fighting on "City" and "Town" terrains.  This advantage is manually added by the Storm Formations player following announcing it in the lobby of the Megamek client after both players have entered the client. If both sides have this bonus they cancel each other and neither side adds the bonus

BattleArmor, BattleTech
MECHANIZED FORMATIONS -These formations specialize in combined arms warfare utilizing high concentrations of BattleArmor working closely with BattleMechs to overpower enemy units.

Advantage: The Mechanized Formations unit focus grants players the ability to ignore the normal the transport requirements for BattleArmor during army composition. Instead  a mechanized focus army may field one BattleArmor additional battle armor squad without transport, for each squad that has the normally required transport . Example: A Mechanized focus army with two transported Battle Armor squads and two non-transported Battle Armor squads would be legal.

Conventional Armor, BattleTechARMOR FORMATIONS - These formations feature high concentrations of conventional armor units, eithier working with BattleMechs or as independent Armor formations. Enemies underestimating the power of conventional combat vehicles often don't live to make the same mistake twice.

Advantage:
The Armor Formations unit focus grants players the option to exempt all conventional vehicles (except VTOLs) from counting as NICU towards the 50% rule. Additionally, the players choosing the Armored Formations unit focus gain access to conventional infantry. The focus does however exclude access to Assault Mechs, except through salvage. Example: An Armor focus army consisting of three Ontos, a Partisan Tank a SRM carrier and three Pegesus Hover Tanks would be legal under this rule.

Notes:
Players may change their unit focus once every 50 xp gained. To do so contact a staff member.
