MEKWARS: LEGENDS

WARDEN CLANS (WC)
There was a time when the Warden philosophy was easily explained as contrasting to the Crusader philosophy.  Warden belief is predicated on the protection of the Inner Sphere from all external threats, including their Clan brethren. Khan Kerlin Ward in particular ramped up the Warden rhetoric against the Crusaders.  Those clans declaring themselves Warden stood as obstructionists in the Crusader's pursuit of Inner Sphere invasion.  With the results of the Great Refusal rendering this traditional opposition irrelevant, the motivations of the Warden clans has become less clear.

While the Wolf Clan has undergone a Crusader reformation, mostly along generational lines, Clans Ghost Bear and Hell's Horses have grown steadily more Warden in their outlook since coming into contact with the Inner Sphere.  Once staunchly Crusader, the Ghost Bears eventually began to see the wisdom of integration, not domination of their Inner Sphere Isorla. Clan Snow Raven, perhaps sensing the dramatic shift in the balance of power in Clan politics has gone to great lengths to assist the Ghost bears and even the exiled Nova Cats relocate to their Inner Sphere holdings. More than simple want for Ghost Bear and Nova Cat holdings, the Snow Ravens helped to prepare their Warden brothers for a time when the invasion of the Inner Sphere may resume once more.

The motivations of the Wardens are now seemingly less noble than their philosophy would suggest.  Rather than leave their hard won holdings the Wardens have instead strengthened their stranglehold on the Inner Sphere.  Benevolent dictators in their own minds, the Wardens of the Inner Sphere may use any Crusader aggression as a pretext to expand their occupation zones in the name of protecting the Inner Sphere from harm.
