THE STAR MAP
Players are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Star Map. The Star Map is essentially the "board" on which the strategic campaign is played out. The effects of the each game or Tactical Operation are dynamically translated directly to the Star Map-- moving the borders of each faction depending on their wins and losses.
While planets (the circles corresponding to a factions color on the Star Map) are the main feature depicted on the Star Map several other important parts of the campaign are depicted on the Star Map as well. Logistics Centers, Factories, Capital Worlds and the three types of Strategic Centers are represented on the Star Map through various icons. They are depicted as follows:
INDUSTRIAL CENTERS- These planets are often the home of massive manufacturing facilities or resources such as rare industrial gems, metals and alloys.
Additionally there are several filters that can be applied. to the Star Map to garner useful information. The Planet Control display option (see right) can be used to provide a bar graph representation to the control of a planet making contested or important worlds easily recognized. Players should explore the display options and the map filter options to find out what is best for them depending on what information they need at the time.

CULTURAL CENTERS- These planets are often the home of high populations often supporting various institutions and recruiting centers to make the most out of the human resources available.
RESEARCH CENTERS- These planets often posses special conditions that are conducive to various types of advanced research or are know to have particularly effective research institutions
CAPITOL CENTERS- These capital worlds either often host important Industrial, Cultural and Research Centers or act as a nexus for the products of these centers.
LOGISTICS CENTERS- Logistics centers represent the temporary concentration of military forces as well as the command and transport resources (JumpShips) necessary to operate effectively.
FACTORY WORLD- These planets are the "crown-jewels" of a faction and are home to the incredibly expensive facilities necessary for the production of BattleMechs and other weapons of war.
Factory symbols appear at 90 degrees on a planets circumference, while Industrial, Cultural, Research and Capitol Centers appear at 180 degrees on a planets circumference. Logistics Centers appear at 270 degrees on a planets circumference.
