Historically considered the weakest of the Successor States, the Capellan Confederation has survived the attempts of House Marik and House Davion to destroy the Capellan identity.  Through sheer determination (and at times, a little madness) the Confederation survived the disaster of the Fourth Succession War and the defection of the St. Ives Commonality.  Their brilliant and cunning leader Sun-Tzu Liao has rejected the Confederation's dismal fortunes and pushed back against the tide of history.  The Confederation now stands on the threshold of greatness, reversing generations of shame and defeat in a single lifetime.

Sun-Tzu Liao's rise to power has mirrored the destiny of the Confederation.  Once seen as a minor player within Inner Sphere politics, Sun-Tzu was catapulted to power by his nomination to the post of First Lord of the new Star League.  Using this office, as well as the power of his newly formed Trinity Alliance, Sun-Tzu advanced to reclaim the Confederation's lost territories while the rest of the Inner Sphere was powerless to stop him.  Together with Thomas Marik's Free Worlds League the two lesser states of the Inner Sphere ignited the crisis that would lead to the rise of Katherine Steiner-Davion and the destruction of their hated Federated Commonwealth enemy.

The Violence of the St. Ives Civil War was the birth pains of a reborn nation.  No longer the laughing stock of Inner Sphere militaries, the CCAF has grown powerful on new strategies, technologies and their traditional commitment to fight to the bitter end.  With St. Ives defeated, and the supremecy of the Confederation recognized, Sun-Tzu's "Xin Sheng" movement is strengthening the belief of Capellan society in their destiny and ability.  The Confederation leads the Trinity Alliance, watching the future unfold in a once unthinkable position: the machinations of its arch-nemesis Hanse Davion finally defeated.
